In February, I posted Part I of this series, an article written by Patti Maguire Armstrong, who contributed it to Catholic Exchange .  Mrs. Armstrong also wrote a follow-up to that article.

This part of the series will highlight a website created by the American Life League.  The website has a very provocative name: The Pill Kills!

The website was put up to support a day of nation-wide demonstrations about the the reality of the birth control pill. Even though the day of protest has already passed, you can still get some VERY useful information from the site. (I was in Belgium at the time; which explains why this info is so late.)

So, one might ask: “How does the pill kill?”  Glad you asked; click “Play”.

At the website, you can also follow the timeline of the Pill.  Here are just a few highlights:

  • 1912 – Radical feminist Margaret Sanger conceives of a “magic pill” contraceptive. Sanger later founded the American Birth Control League, which eventually became the Planned Parenthood Federation.   (You’ve really got to read the ALL article about Sanger.)
  • 1968 – Pope Paul VI issues the encyclical Humanae Vitae (Of Human Life), which reiterates the Catholic Church’s consistent prohibition of contraception, sterilization and abortion. Humanae Vitae warns prophetically that “artificial birth control… could open wide the way for marital infidelity and a general lowering of moral standards” and that “a man who grows accustomed to the use of contraceptive methods may forget the reverence due to a woman, and… reduce her to being a mere instrument for the satisfaction of his own desires, no longer considering her as his partner whom he should surround with care and affection.” (Very wise words; indeed, you might even say words from The Holy Spirit.)
  • Today – The birth control pill and other birth control products have a lower dose of estrogen, which increases the chance of breakthrough ovulation and thus increases the likelihood of chemical abortions occurring. Even with the lower dose, the pill still has other dangerous side effects such as blood clots, breast cancer, stroke, cervical cancer, infertility, weight gain and much more.

There is a lot of good information about the effects of the Pill – on the baby, the mother, and society in general.
