One of the two presidential candidates supports the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA).  In fact, he said he would like for it to be the very first bill he signs into law as the new President of the United States. Can you guess who it is?

First of all, let us examine what the Freedom of Choice Act is:

  • “a bill in the United States Congress which, if enacted, would abolish all restrictions and limitations on the right of women in the United States to have an abortion, whether at the State or Federal level” – according to Wikipedia
  • a way to make sure that minors can get abortions without having to notify their parents – according to the National Organization of Women (the 5th Q&A), which suppports FOCA
  • a way to force taxpayer-funding of abortion, according to the Family Research Council (the second to last paragraph)
  • here is a link to the actual text of the Freedom of Choice Act

So, which candidate for president supports the Freedom of Choice Act?

Barack Obama.

Please remember to vote Catholic!

SPREAD THE WORD!!! This bill is so dangerous that the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops Pro-Life Secretariat has urged clear, vigilant, and persistent advocacy against the “Freedom of Choice Act” (or FOCA). The Pro-Life Secretariat has expressed grave concern to state Catholic conferences that FOCA would, “if enacted, would , sweep away hundreds of pro-life laws and policies at the state and federal levels and obliterate virtually all the gains of the past 35 years and cause the abortion rate to skyrocket.” See the September 30, 2008 press release from USCCB about FOCA: http://www.usccb.org/comm/archives/2008/08-141.shtml and the USCCB-approved alert at: http://www.nchla.org/actiondisplay.asp?ID=263.

    Katerine,

This is an unbelievable bill that Catholics and all people of good-will need to hear about. If this bill becomes law, then there will be no way – without Divine intervention – to preserve the sanctity of life. Keep up the good work on spreading the message.

    James,
As many people as we can get to learn about FOCA, the better. Anybody who supports this bill can no longer be called “pro-choice”; that person must be called “pro-abortion”. (Though there really is no difference.)
